DAVID HOLMES
DECORATIVE DRIFTWOOD
As a child I spent the long summer holidays in Pembrokeshire. I got to know the beaches, rocks and caves well. My beachcombing habit looking for interesting pebbles, shells, seaglass and especially driftwood started there. I love the fact that each piece has it's own inherent texture, shape and colour. The unique quality of each piece of wood inspires my handmade designs.
I collect driftwood from beaches, riversides and lakes from all over the UK. The places I visit the most are the Blackwater Estuary in Essex, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.
The coastal lifestyle is about appreciating the natural environment and hopefully my work serves as a memento of that. It's something that has a broad appeal, and my work has featured in the Guardian, Coast Magazine, Financial Times and London Evening Standard.
