STRANGE LAND

Mike Rollins presents Strange Land, a solo exhibition of landscape paintings.

From Hitchin to Halifax, London to Las Vegas, Mike takes you on a personal journey through a world of atmospheric locations.

Using a variety of mediums, Mike likes to draw out the enigmatic elements of nature, and the underlying narratives of a location. Growing up in ‘Brontë country’, amongst the gritstone moorlands of West Yorkshire, Mike is drawn to the darker side of a landscape and aims to capture a brooding intensity.

“It’s about creating a sense of drama. I think it’s something that initially drew me towards set design. The location itself becomes a character in the painting. I’m looking for a strange angle, or dramatic contrasts of dark and light. Especially if I’m trying to paint a place that’s very well known, I try to get a viewpoint that doesn’t scream ‘tourist shot’. I’m looking for that element of the ‘strange’.”

You are invited to join Mike at his Private View on 6th September from 6.30pm till 8.30pm.

The show runs from 7th till 15th September, and Mike will be at the gallery throughout, from 10am till 4pm, demonstrating his painting techniques and chatting to visitors about his work.

INFINITE

20TH - 28TH JULY 2024

INFINITE

Victoria's solo exhibition showcases her work on paper, board and canvas. She values the freedom to explore various mediums and supports, as she believes it keeps her art practice invigorated.

Regardless of whether the source material is an abstracted landscape view or an interpretation of an aerial perspective, Victoria employs a consistent technique. She applies layers of paint, ink, and mixed media. Using different tools, she adapts her mark-making to blend shapes, colours, and textures, all of which are important to her.

"I am delighted to be presenting ‘INFINITE’.

INFINITE embraces variety. This exhibition brings to The Wynd Gallery Letchworth, interpretations of the landscape on paper, board and canvas.

I continue my investigation into Abstracting the Landscape and Aerial Views, and am excited to share my artwork with you."

Please 'wander down the Wynd' and come and meet Victoria, she will be in the gallery 20-28th 10-4pm (excluding 25th July) inviting you to enjoy the artwork and if you wish, have a chat about her art practice, tools and techniques.

Join me at the Private View or as I’d prefer to call it the ‘Opening Event’ of INFINITE on Saturday 20th July from 5.00-8.00pm ish.

I’d love to hear from you if you can attend. If this is a difficult date for you please do try to visit on any of the other days. Please note I will not be at the Gallery on Thursday 25th but one of the other gallery artists will be in attendance.

I look forward to seeing you there.

Best wishes
Victoria

TAKING TIME

1ST - 9TH JUNE 2024

Taking Time Exhibition : Claire Pringle, Graham A. Matthews and David Holmes

‘Taking Time’ explores the relationship between nature, entropy and perception.
Whether it's the time eroding effects of wind and water on drift wood, or the fossil like imprints of life on ceramic, or the appearance of the slowing down of time through photographs, the three collections of work, suggest to the viewer to slow down and to take their time....
