AN EXHIBITION BY LUCY SUGDEN
21st -29th October
Glimpse into a woven world of nature and gardens in Lucy’s one-week solo show at The Wynd Gallery.
Lucy is a woven tapestry artist who loves to weave with fishing line! A love of light play and garden life inspires much of her work which she creates using traditional woven tapestry techniques on an upright loom, and her own exploration of the tapestry processes on the circle loom.
With a degree in constructed textiles, specialising in woven tapestry, Lucy has spent most of her career developing and delivering art education to the community, schools, and colleges only returning to tapestry weaving in 2017.
‘My work explores a fascination of light play, combining fibres and a love of nature. It is
important to me to maintain a sustainable art practice by recycling and upcycling fibres where possible, which has become an integral part of how I work’.
A member of The British Tapestry Group and various textile organisations Lucy regularly exhibits nationally and locally and teaches tapestry weaving at The Letchworth Settlement. She also continues to deliver workshops and talks.
To accompany her exhibition Lucy is holding a series of events at The Wynd Gallery.
Tapestry sampler workshops on Monday 23rd October, family weaving workshops on Wednesday 25th October and she is hosting one of her talks on the evening of Thursday 26 th October.
