The Wynd Gallery is a co-operative art gallery

ceramics and textiles.
The gallery promotes the Arts in
Letchworth Garden City and provides an exciting venue suitable for artists working across a range
of contemporary visual arts media. Throughout
the year our artists will share their work through our feature window programme
You are our current featured artist at the Wynd gallery, with our featured artist window. Please tell us about what we can expect to see when we visit the gallery?
The principal focus will be about the period I lived in Miami Florida. I created 25 water colour paintings about the water and skies of South Florida, emphasing the beauty and colours of the ocean and incredible changing skies of this part of Florida. These were destined for a solo show that I had at the State Capitol in Tallahassee, Fl. The pieces displayed in the window will be selected pieces from that exhibition plus limited edition prints .

Can you tell us a little about your journey into art?
I originally received a BA in Fine Art from Walthamstow Art College . I also had a scholarship to Hornsey Art College. Both no longer exist. I also studied water colour painting at the Museum of Fine Art in Houston Texas.
What materials or techniques do you most enjoy working with?
I enjoy all mediums. Each has its own beauty and qualities. I am now concentrating on reduction lino cut printing.
What’s one tool you couldn’t live without?
A Russian sable hair water colour wash brush.

Where do you draw inspiration from? Nature, people, emotions, or something else?
Nature, but I also enjoy buildings particularly industrial buildings. It depends on the medium I am using.
What projects or ideas are you excited to explore next?
I want to learn much more about reduction lino cut printing including the use of different materials as well as interacting with marble ink painting.
What’s one surprising fact about you that people might not expect?
I hate brussel sprouts.
Do you have a ritual or routine that helps you get into a creative mindset?
No I am always thinking about different creative processes related to the ideas that I have.
Coffee, tea, or something else while you create?
music
What advice would you give someone who wants to start exploring craft or art themselves?
Go looking with a sketch book and a range of graphite pencils particularly 2B and 3B.
