NADE SIMMONS
PAINTING & TEXTILES
Nade's work is instantly recognisable—loose, energetic, and full of life. Her illustrations often appear spontaneous, with scratchy ink lines that dance around the page, capturing movement and emotion in a way that feels both effortless and highly expressive. Despite the apparent messiness, her work is well honed with practiced technique; she knows exactly how to exaggerate features for humour or charm, how to let the ink spill in just the right way, and how to keep a childlike joy in every composition.
She uses colour sparingly but effectively—often with a light, washy watercolour palette that supports the ink rather than overtaking it. There’s a warmth and mischief to everything she draws.
Underneath the scribble is a deep understanding of human nature, comedy, and story—she illustrates not just florals and insects, but their charm, atmosphere, and individual personality. Her style looks unrefined at first glance, but it’s the kind of looseness that comes from years of practice.
